From Office to Home Office: How Kimberly Found Her Groove in Virtual Assistance.

Kimberly’s career transformation beautifully captures the essence of resilience and adaptability. Steve Jobs wisely said, “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work.” Kimberly’s move to virtual assistance not only allowed her to manage her schedule but also enabled her to be there for her family. Her journey illustrates how aligning your career with your values and needs can lead to professional success and personal satisfaction.

Tell our readers about your professional background.

I studied for my Management Assistant Diploma after completing my Matric and began working in the field while finishing my studies. I quickly moved to Cape Town from Johannesburg, where my career took off. I am a technically minded professional who loves to learn, leading to multiple promotions in my career.

Where are you based now and what do you currently do?

I am based in Fish Hoek, Cape Town. I am working with three clients at present.

What made you decide to change your career and work for VPA?

When my son started “big school,” it quickly became apparent that he had more needs. Not being in an office environment allows me to be there to fulfill these needs. He is autistic and has ADHD. Having the freedom to manage my hours and time allows me every opportunity to have a well-balanced work and home life.

Can you highlight your success stories to date?

Some highlights to date are that I can manage my schedule and work from anywhere which guarantees me the ability to invest in not only my career but my family too. I love every opportunity to experience something new, and being a VPA has offered me just that, from new software and programs to imaginative business ideas. This career has taught me to be determined and not give up, to keep looking for and trying different options to get a job done.

Are there any challenges or lowlights in your industry?

The only low light I have experienced was a 6-hour time-zone difference. It was not easy, but it was possible, and I persevered.

What in your opinion is trending now regarding virtual assistance in your area of expertise?

I am not sure how to answer this. I have found a section of an article that I found exciting, and I quote:

While virtual assistance initially found its jogging in sectors such as customer service and administrative support, it has expanded across diverse vertical industries. From healthcare to finance, education to retail, organizations are leveraging virtual assistants to streamline operations, improve customer experiences, and drive innovation. In 2024, we can expect to see continued adoption of virtual assistance across various sectors, opening new avenues for growth and specialization.

Why should start-ups, small businesses, or large companies use VPA services?

Businesses can access a wide range of specialised skills and knowledge that may not be available internally. Virtual assistants can provide services in various fields, including digital marketing, graphic design, web development, bookkeeping, and more.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know!

I have too much knowledge of reptiles, insects, and sea creatures. This is due to my son’s obsessions and my having to Google his questions. I somehow retain all the information.

Kimberly’s career shift to virtual assistance is a shining example of how blending flexibility with expertise can lead to outstanding results. Her ability to adapt her professional life to suit her family’s needs highlights the significant benefits of having a skilled virtual assistant. Her story is a powerful reminder of how virtual assistance can transform work-life balance and enhance productivity. We love collaborating with her and know she will reach new heights.
